Mariner High School Reviews

I'm a school district employee and a Mariner parent, so I see things from a couple of different perspectives. Parent involvement at Mariner is very low (I know, because I'm very involved, and there are never enough people to help), and I believe that handicaps the school to some extent. Also, innovative ideas by teachers and committees in the Mukilteo district to improve our education system are not given appropriate attention and a fair chance.

My son will be a Junior this coming 08/08 school year, and I just have to say Thank you to ALL the teachers at Mariner and at Voyager. If it wasn't for thier IEP classes and all the counslers, he wouldn't be doing as well as he is! I am so very proud of him. So once again, Thank you Mariner and Thank you Voyager, for all that you have done for my son, and for the things I know you will do for my other 2 children in the years to come.

I was a little reluctant, on sending my son to Mariner, but after eight months, I have been pleasantly surprised, I don't know if it because he is all honor classes, but the teachers have been awesome, always keeping in touch. I am very impressed with Mariner and I wish people would stop bad mouthing this school

There are some good teachers, but the overall environment of the school can have a very negative impact on students. The school does not cater to the needs are learning styles of all of their diverse population, as evident in there above average drop out rate.

I love this school it is so welcoming and diverse that you feel like your in a cultural melting pot. Compared to the other high school in Mukilteo School District it is the best school for your student to excel

Marnier is a fun school and you get a good feeling inside being there :)

Mariner is an amazing High school. As for the sports 1st in state for HighQ. Made state in both football and basketball. Wrestling was amazing. Extra Curricular. FBLA and DECA both had students go to state and place. The leadership at Mariner is amazing. There is a zero-period leadership II class with over 25 students in it. These kids are dedicated to helping improve their school. The teachers are amazing and are dedicated to helping their students to succeed. Many of them are there after school just in case you need help. May I mention a few names? Le Fauve-Math Metzler-US History Caskey-English, All three of these teachers were there for me if I needed any help at all. You could always find them. Its a pity to see the low scores for such an amazing school. I would not go to any other school!

im a sophomore at mariner high school, and i find it disappointing to find these bad reviews. im on a variance right now because i refuse to go to any other high school. the teachers here are amazing. you can really tell that they care so much about their students. it also bothers me that parents are complaining about there beign little parent involvment, but thats not the schools fault! if they're so concerned about it, why dont they get involved? yes, mariner has its flaws, but what high school doesn't?

Mariner high school is an amazing school. I am a senior and have been going to mariner since my freshman year. I dont see why everybody thinks it is such a terrible school. I felt that the school spirt and envolvment in students , teachers and parents has gone way up since my freshman year.it not that bad of a school and the staff there are amazing and they do the best they can.Its not there fault the kids dont listen. If any fingers should be pointed about the gangs and none parent envolvement it should be the parent. The school is not located in the best inviroment but it improving. overall mariner is a great school.

As a student at Mariner High school I think that our reputation is far worse than Mariner really is. This school has greatly improved over the years, I have been going here since my freshman year and I am now a senior, and yes Mariner does have some flaws but the teachers here are amazing, I don't think I would want to go to school anywhere else we have such a vase diversity here and we have culutre all around us, we need to focus on the postive and not on the negative, so many good things have been going on here and does anybody know about it? No because they say its Mariner and every student there is bad. Well I can tell you that yes we may have some bad seeds but don't judge just on that.

It seems that all of the other schools in this area lack the diversity and culture that Mariner has.

Mariner High School seems to get worse every year. If you arfe a concerned parent looking for a place to educate your child, chose elsewhere. There are good teachers, sho have their hands tied when it comes to teaching and discipline. There is no involvement by parents and no school spirit. Maybe this will change in the future but right now it is the worst place for respect and school pride.

Mariner High School.......Well I try to stay optimistic but am running out of optimism. The gang population is getting out of hand and the administrators dont want to deal with it. The acadamies havent turned out to be as great as they were made out to be. Classes are too full and the selection isnt great. When asked the counselors say we dont have funding to have classes. Im confused, wasnt the gates grant to be used for the academies and classes? My child has 2 more years and I cant wait til they are out of the school. I f this year isnt better we may trade off for senior year.....how sad. There is little parent involvement, although I think the kids keep the parents away too. There isnt much school spirit either. The cheerleaders try but cant do it all. Overall this school needs help.

I was very excited to hear my freshman was starting Mariner with the Gates grant and the six academies but I must say after a year I am very disapointed the classes are over crowded and my child does not get much homework to be a high school student I mean we are suppose to be preparing these kids for college and the real world. I am pulling my child out and sending her to another school.

A hard working school divided into 6 academies. The academy system was supposed to lower classroom teacher/student ratios and help focus learning of students, but it has resulted in low test scores and confusing, overcrowded classrooms of up to 33+ students in some cases. This school also has declined its federal funding because it has not met test requirements for the last two years in terms of average percentage growth. The school is also slowly each year getting an almost exponential amount of students to the point of severly overcrowded halls, and thats only for the students that come to school. Fights, drugs, and gang activity are pretty commonplace. Not a school I would recommend to anyone... Any other school is more than likely a better option for your child.

I think that this school doesn't know how to use the grant to its fullest ability. They have the different academy's. But the kids are all over the place. The academys also dont give the students much to pick from. Some of the teachers are good. But there are also the teachers that dont ever make the students do anything and they just all pass. But they never learned anything.

both of my sons graduated from Mariner. I feel they were very fortunate and have come out being better people by attending Mariner. The majority of the staff are caring and dedicated teachers, admins, paras and support staff. The diversity of the school has taught my sons to get along in todays diverse world. The education they received prepared them for college as both of them have attended or are attending a four year university. Parent involvement is low. There is a dedicated core group of parents that support the school in every way possible. It would be nice of more parents would get involved. The football, wrestling and basketball programs are strong and have a dedicated group of coaches. Girls sports are somewhat lacking and could use more support from the district. The 'Academies' transition has been challenging. Hopefully will all come together in the next year or two.

Academic programs recently were divided up into 'academies' with the aid of a Gates Grant. Forming and running of academies has not gone as smoothly as hoped and teachers are stuck with multiple (up to 4) classes to prepare for. Teachers are stretched thin, but overall they are a fantastic and dedicated group of people. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports and extracurricular activities. Boys sports programs, especially football and wrestling, are quite strong. Little parent involvement.

They were more sports orientated than academics. Good teachers, overall an average school.

people say that Mariner High school is the ghetto but really we are the only school i know with so much diversity and i am proud to be a part of mariner we've come very far and we have achevied so much and i think it will just get better.

Fantastic school-great football program. Everyone at Mariner is dedicated to providing the best education for my child.
